Daniel Horowitz

“You see but you do not observe,” Sherlock Holmes once chided Watson.  For me the unique value of photography is that it forces us to always observe and consider all the wonders around us that we otherwise tend to breeze past without much thought.  I draw inspiration from the urban scenes and landscapes around my hometown of Alexandria, Virginia, just outside Washington, DC: the river, the bridges, the monuments, the Chesapeake Bay, and the countryside.  I hope my pictures convey the regular sense of awe I feel walking around these places every day.

Daniel Horowitz is a photographer based in Alexandria, VA, specializing in nighttime and long-exposure photography.  His images have appeared in many exhibits around the country as well as in local and regional news media.  Recent awards include prizes from Wikimedia (#6 in the world for photographs of historic sites), Honoring the Future, the Art League of Alexandria, Howard County Arts Council, Mid-Atlantic Photo Visions, Del Ray Artisans, Falls Church Arts, Maryland Federation of Art, and the New York Center for Photographic Arts. In 2022, Horowitz was selected as the Festival Artist for the National Bell Festival. Horowitz’s photographs are included in the permanent collection of the Alexandria Black History Museum.
